Overview

Hospitality Investors Trust, Inc. "HIT REIT" is currently hiring for a Staff Accountant in its Fairfax office location. 

 

Hospitality Investors Trust, Inc. (“HIT REIT”) is a publicly registered non-traded real estate investment trust (“REIT”) which owns a diversified portfolio of strategically-located hotel properties throughout North America within the select service and full-service markets of the hospitality sector.

 

The Staff Accountant ensures the integrity of accounting information by preparing, recording, verifying, and reconciling transactions.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Prepares and records journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary and general ledger accounts by calculating, allocating, verifying, and reconciling; resolving discrepancies.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data; problem-solving.
  • Assists with gathering of data (both financial and nonfinancial) as requested by the auditors to ensure timely completion of quarterly reporting and annual audits.
  • Meets monthly internal and external reporting deadlines
  • Responsible for planning and organizing his or her work within the set parameters of objectives.
  • Adheres to all established SOX controls.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Qualifications

Education

BS in Accounting; CPA or CPA Candidate Preferred.

 

Technical Skills and Prior Experience

  • One to three years GAAP accounting experience. Experience includes general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliation preparation and participating in month end close processes.
  • Demonstrated success with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to think critically, use judgment, and independently make decisions
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience with following internal controls.
  • Strong proficiency skills with spreadsheet and database reporting tools.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
